This is arguably Dreamocracy’s most impactful project to date: we are working hand-in-hand with Madagascar-based think tank INDRI to design and implement innovative ways to accelerate change in defence of the country’s environment and well-being. Sounds ambitious? It is:
- We are designing and creating with INDRI’s staff the Agora of Forests and Landscapes of Madagascar and providing public affairs advice to ensure radically better coordination of the fight against deforestation [2019-2020]. Inspired by Malawi’s charcoal strategy and Germany’s Agora Energiewende, this platform of actors is coordinating the drafting and implementation of a national strategy to stop deforestation and accelerate reforestation. With backing from but independent of the national public authorities, the platform acts as a political centre of gravity and knowledge hub. Dreamocracy contributes its political strategy advice, and key design and methodology concepts to ensure that the stakeholders involved overcome the obstacles encountered in previous coordination attempts: lack of commitment to act from various parties; insufficient pooling of knowledge; lack of visible results and public endorsement; lack of tangible incentives for actors to align.
- We are supporting the development of new initiatives for urban and marine landscapes, according to the theory of change outlined on INDRI’s website.
